My friend found the story easier to follow compared to Nausicaa and really enjoyed the characters especially Calcifer.Īs of now, I would say Howl is my favorite so far which isnt too surprising since I remember really loving it and willing to rewatch it back on those dvds alongside Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.Īs I type this, I just made the connection that all these Ghibli films have strong and independent female leads.

Man I was not expecting a young Batman voice coming out of the manchild that is Howl lol! Since it is technically the "newer" film, we immediately noticed that the art looked better compared to Nausicaa. I actually remembered more about the movie compared to the past films and I was comparing the English dub to my memories of the Cantonese dub. Being the Nolan fanboy he is, he saw Christian Bale's name on the cover of Howl's Moving Castle and quickly decided it to be the next film lolĪs stated in the OP, Howl's Moving Castle was the latest Ghibli movie I watched in my childhood.

He recently visited again and I let him choose which Ghibli film to watch next. We enjoyed it and hearing Patrick Stewart was a nice surprise :) Friend came by and we watched Nausicaa awhile back. Which ones would yall recommend to watch first? Just watch them in order of release? I'm trying to hold out on Nausicaa since a friend wants to come over and watch it next weekend but if it's the definite one to start out with, I'll watch it ahead of him :PĪlso which Ghibli films post- Howl's Moving Castle would yall recommend to look out for during a future blu-ray sale ? Looking at the names on the cover and i'm quite shocked they got someone like Patrick Stewart, Mark Hamill and others for the dub. Now I dont remember much of these films outside of one or two scenes and i'm excited to revisit them in a new way via english dub. The only film I watched in english dub was Princess Mononoke but it was kinda ruined since i'm pretty sure the english subs on the bootleg disc was for Batman and Robin.

Plus I watched nearly all of them in cantonese dub or japanese + eng subs thanks to a circulation of bootleg DVD copies being spread around relatives (The "advantage" of living in a city with a Chinatown I guess lol). However, I haven't watched any of them since elementary and early middle school. Now I have watched all of these films at least once and looking at Ghibli's wiki article, I have watched nearly all of the studio's feature films up to Howl's Moving Castle.
